This week I read 2 Samuel 9. It tells the story of David's kindness to Mephibosheth.
Mephibo-WHO????
It's a long story that I won't go into here (if you really want to know the whole story read 1 Samuel and 2 Samuel in the Old Testament. The short version is this...David had a friend named Jonathan, Jonathan's dad's name was Saul, and Jonathan had a son named Mephibosheth (Saul's grandson). Confused yet??? Like I said, read 1 and 2 Samuel...well one day David asks this question "Is anyone still alive from Saul's family? If so I want to show God's kindness to them." God's kindness....the words jumped right off the page. So I asked the obvious question "Why God's Kindness? Why not just regular ordinary, everyday kindness? Why say specifically "GOD'S KINDNESS?" So I went searching for God's kindness, longing to know what it meant. Well, I found the answer in Ephesians 2:1-7...No I am NOT going to put it here! You go read it!! RIGHT NOW!!! : )
Did you see it? Did you see God's kindness and what it is??
Now read Colossians 3:12...Go ahead, read it and see what it says about kindness.
Good Stuff :)
What is God's Kindness and how is it different from our human kindness?? Leave you comments. I would love to know what you think.
"Such things were written in the Scriptures long ago to teach us. And the Scriptures give us hope and encouragement as we wait patiently for God’s promises to be fulfilled."
Romans 15:4 (NLT)
Prior to the beginning of this summer, I decided that we in Epic Jv would be looking at people of the Old Testament. Romans 15:4 has been a constant reminder of why we are doing this. From Daniel and his refusal to stop praying to Moses and his call at the burning bush. From Gideon taking his 300 dog drinker army to Elijah and his reliance and unwavering belief in the power of God, it truly has been, at least for me, a summer of encouragement, hope, and a great deal of learning. This weekend we looked at Ruth and how she steadfastly lived out the words of Philippians 2:3-4 (NLT) "Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too." I was once again challenged to think of others first.
Is has been encouraging to know that there are others who have come before and lived out the words of God.
"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us."
Hebrews 12:1
This is crazy!! I am blogging from my phone. Another new way to say nothing important. How amazing is this?!?!
Just about a year ago I made a major life change. I became a Junior High Pastor. It has been a wonderful new adventure for me (and my wife) and it is my prayer that I will be on this adventure for quite some time. Shortly after I began this new adventure my blogging came to a rather abrupt halt. I felt that I neither had the time nor the purpose to blog...until now.
I find myself back here in cyberspace with one purpose in mind. Get kids thinking about as well as reading the word of God...THE BIBLE!!! So this is my new direction. The moose is once again on the lose in an effort that I might be used to unleash the power of the Bible in the lives of some amazing young men and ladies.
Come back soon as we all (hopefully) begin to "wander" together in search of truth.
